Cellulite Repair CorrectionHouston, TX

Contrary to popular belief, cellulite is not simply too much fat under the skin. Even very thin women may have cellulite, and up to 90% of women are affected with minimal to very severe cellulite dimples. Cellulite results when fibrous connective tissue, which courses through the subcutaneous fat, pulls down overlying thin skin, causing an external mattress-button effect on the surface. The fat between the pulled down spots seems to bulge outward.

In our experience, long-term cellulite improvement requires:

  • Breaking-up or loosening the fibrous septa,
  • Melting away or reducing the bulging fat, and
  • Thickening and tightening skin to make it smoother and more resistant to the inward pulling.
  • VASER cellulite treatments use ultrasound energy placed under the skin to melt the fat (emulsify fat) and loosen the fibrous attachments. The heat generated to emulsify (melt) the fat simultaneously heats the skin to 43-46 degrees Centigrade to stimulate dermal remodeling and collagen tightening. Dr. Rodriguez uses a specialized $6000 infrared camera to safely monitor the skin temperature while ensuring that the skin is sufficiently heated to the required target temperatures to really stimulate collagen remodeling and tighter skin. A compression garment is worn under clothing for 2-3 weeks to keep the treated area flat and smooth during the early healing process. Visible improvement is usually noticed immediately, and skin tightening continues for several months afterwards. The entire procedure is performed with the patient comfortably awake, using local anesthesia.

In thin patients with little fat under the skin, ThermiTight RF injectable radiofrequency similarly delivers precise measurable heat under the skin to cause skin tightening to reduce cellulite appearance. Surgical compression garments are generally not required with ThermiTight cellulite treatments. Some visible improvement is noticed immediately, but most skin tightening continues over several months afterwards.

Dr. Rodriguez also uses the combination of mesotherapy for cellulite followed by Thermi250 bipolar radiofrequency to improve less severe cellulite. The mesotherapy cellulite injections into the skin help loosen the fibrous tissue under the skin, while the subsequent external radiofrequency treatment tightens the overlying skin. No anesthetic is required, there is no significant downtime, and there are no scars. Multiple treatment sessions may be required.

For aftercare, Dr. Rodriguez also uses special topical stem cell stimulators to enhance the healing and remodeling process, and he provides his patients with a list of oral supplements which promote healthy collagen and elastin production.

There are several external laser treatment devices that may improve the appearance of cellulite, but usually it takes several months to see the final results. The most popular of these is Cellulaze, and CelluSmooth is another.

Cellulaze by Cynosure is the first FDA approved minimally invasive, one-time treatment for cellulite. Cellulaze is a FDA approved one time treatment that utilizes a 1440 nm wavelength side-firing laser to accomplish 3 things: 1) “melt” away fat bulging out 2) break up fibrous septae (attachments) that create the indentations and cellulite dimples and 3) help thicken the dermis (skin) to prevent future recurrence. The procedure can take between 60-90 minutes and can be completed under local or just IV sedation (depending on the length of your procedure and number of areas being treated). To see your final results takes between 3-6 months.

CelluSmooth uses a new 1319nm laser wavelength that Sciton claims is very specific for disrupting the fibrous bands that cause cellulite and smoothing out the overlying skin. The procedure is routinely performed under local anesthesia and the patient may resume full activity in 48hrs.

VelaShape III is the only non-invasive treatment that is FDA -cleared to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The VelaShape III uses mechanical suction and tension in combination with IR (infrared), Bi-Polar RF (radio-frequency) and massage rollers to smooth and tighten areas such as the arms, thighs, abdomen and buttocks. This technique is generally not advisable for people with thin, loose skin because of the strong suction.
